Tina Turner: Iconic Rock ‘n’ Roll Star Passes Away at 83

Rock ‘n’ roll icon Tina Turner, who was 83 years old has sadly passed away as confirmed by her spokesperson, to the PA news agency.

Turner gained recognition for her chart-topping hits like “Proud Mary” and “What’s Love Got To Do With It ” along with her captivating stage presence.

In 2008 after a six-decade career, Turner made the decision to retire from touring. Originally born as Anna Mae Bullock in Nutbush Tennessee she achieved success as an artist both in America and Switzerland. Throughout her career, Turner received eight Grammy Awards.

Was honored with stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the St. Louis Walk of Fame. Her memoir titled “I, Tina” was adapted into a movie called “What Love Got To Do With It” in 1993. The biographical film portrayed her relationship with Ike Turner earning Angela Bassett an Oscar nomination for portraying Tina.

Often referred to as the “Queen of Rock and Roll ” Turner tied the knot with her long-term partner Erwin Bach, a music executive in a civil ceremony back, in 2013.

Since 1994 Switzerland has been the place she chose to call home. This marked Turner’s marriage as she had previously been wed, to musician Ike from 1962 to 1978. In her autobiography, published in 1986 Turner bravely shared the experiences of abuse she endured during her time with Ike, which even included a nose.

Sadly Ike passed away in December 2007. It was revealed by Tina’s spokesperson that for 35 years leading up to his passing, there had been no contact between them and no further statements would be made.

At times Turner has faced health obstacles such, as being diagnosed with intestinal cancer in 2016 and undergoing a kidney transplant in 2017.
